Vermont has adopted Part 393 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs).
The adoption includes regulations dealing with projecting loads (393.87) and cargo securement (Part 393, Subpart I).
Part 393 applies to vehicles operating intrastate with a gross vehicle weight or gross combination weight rating of 26,001 or more pounds, or transporting hazardous materials requiring placarding.
In Vermont, a person must not operate a motor vehicle nor draw a trailer or semi-trailer on a highway unless it is constructed and loaded so that it will create no hazard to other users of the highway.
