Employers must immediately tag ladders with a structural or other defect, “Dangerous: Do Not Use,” or similar wording. It must be removed from service until replaced or repairs are made in accordance with 1910.22(d). Most repairs can be done by either an employer’s maintenance personnel or the manufacturer; however, if the repair involves the structural integrity of the ladder, a qualified person (defined under 1910.21(b)) must perform or supervise the repair.
