Are HMIS® and WHMIS the same?

Although both HMIS^® and WHMIS have to do with chemical hazard communication, they are not equivalent.

WHMIS refers to the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System, which is the Canadian workplace hazard communication regulation.

HMIS refers to the Hazardous Materials Identification System, a copyrighted hazard container labeling system designed to alert workers to the hazards associated with the materials in the container so labeled.
