Age discrimination - Alabama
Summary of differences between federal and state regulations
Employer defined
“Employer” means any person employing 20 or more employees for each working day in each of 20 or more calendar weeks in the current or preceding calendar year, including any agent of that person.
Unlawful employment practices
The unlawful employment practices, as well as the exemptions, are similar to those under the federal Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA). These include provisions for apprenticeship and other training programs, licenses or certifications, advertisements, and retaliation.
A person may file under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act and the ADEA, or bring a civil action in the circuit court of the county in which the person was or is employed.
