North Carolina has adopted 390.15 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, and all subsequent amendments. Section 390.15 includes accident recordkeeping requirements.
Section 390.15 applies to all intrastate vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating, or gross combination weight rating, or gross vehicle weight, or gross combination weight of 26,001 pounds or more, whichever is greater, and any vehicles transporting hazardous materials required to be placarded.

Notification | The driver must notify the nearest police department, highway patrol, or sheriff’s office if the accident results in:
The Division of Motor Vehicles will contact the drivers or owners of vehicles involved in accidents if information in addition to that reported by law enforcement is needed, and such information must be supplied within 10 days. |

Obtaining an accident report
Procedure | A copy of an official crash report may be obtained by completing a request form from the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV). The request form, TR-67A, can be obtained from the DMV website: https://roar-assets-auto.rbl.ms/documents/61143/TR-67A.pdf. |
Fee | $6.50 for a certified copy of a crash report |
