Minnesota has incorporated by reference 390.15 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs). Section 390.15 includes accident recordkeeping requirements.
Section 390.15 applies to motor vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight, gross vehicle weight rating, gross combination weight, or gross combination weight rating of 10,001 pounds or more, or hauling hazardous materials required to be placarded.

Obtaining an accident report
| Procedure | A copy of an official accident report may be obtained by sending a request in writing to the Department of Public Safety. Such a request must be signed by an authorized requestor.
