Maryland has adopted 390.15 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs), as amended. Section 390.15 includes accident recordkeeping requirements.
Section 390.15 applies to vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating or gross combination weight rating of 10,001 or more pounds as well as to anyone transporting hazardous materials requiring placarding.
Accident reporting - Motor carrier
| Notification | Any driver involved in an accident must report the accident in writing when the accident results in:

| Reporting Timeframe | 15 days (A written accident report by the driver is not required if the accident is investigated and a report is filed by law enforcement.) |
Obtaining an accident report
| Procedure | An official copy of an accident report may be obtained at the Maryland State Police Barrack that completed the report, ten days after the accident. A request may be made online at: https://mdsp.maryland.gov/Organization/Pages/SupportServicesBureau/CentralRecordsDivision.aspx A copy may be obtained in person at the Central Records Division. |
