Kentucky has adopted 390.15 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs). Section 390.15 includes accident recordkeeping requirements.
Section 390.15 applies to vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating, gross combination weight rating, gross vehicle weight, or gross combination weight of 10,001 pounds or more, or transporting hazardous materials which require placarding.
Accident reporting - Motor carrier
| Notification | The driver must file a written report on a form provided by the Department of State Police if the accident resulted in:
- Death
- Injury or
- Property damage exceeding $500.

| Reporting Timeframe | 10 days. (A report is not required if an accident investigation is conducted by law enforcement.) |
Obtaining an accident report
| Procedure | Copies of traffic accident reports investigated by the Kentucky State Police may be obtained in person or by written request to the appropriate Post according to the county of occurrence. The request should include the:- Driver’s name
- Address
- County and city where the accident occurred
- Highway number/name and investigating agency (if known) and
- Date of the accident.
