Illinois has adopted 390.15 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs) that were in effect on October 1, 2014. Section 390.15 includes accident recordkeeping requirements.
Section 390.15 applies to persons employing drivers, drivers, and any self-propelled or towed vehicle used on public highways in interstate and intrastate commerce when the vehicle has a gross vehicle weight, a gross vehicle weight rating, a gross combination weight, or a gross combination weight rating of 10,001 or more pounds, or the vehicle is used in the transportation of hazardous materials in a quantity requiring placarding under the Illinois Hazardous Materials Transportation Act.

Obtaining an accident report
| Procedure | A copy of an official accident report may be obtained by sending a request in writing, accompanied by check or money, order to the Illinois State Police. The request must include as much of the following information as possible:

A redacted report may be requested online and obtained via email via EPay: https://isp.illinois.gov/CrashReports/EPay. |
