Georgia has adopted 390.15 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs), with subsequent amendments. Section 390.15 includes accident recordkeeping requirements.
Section 390.15 applies to any self-propelled or towed motor vehicle used on a highway in intrastate and interstate commerce when the vehicle has a gross vehicle weight rating, gross combination weight rating, gross vehicle weight, or gross combination weight of 10,001 pounds or more, or is of any size transporting a placardable amount of hazardous materials.

| Notification | The driver must notify police if the accident results in:

| Reporting Timeframe | Immediately |
| Recordkeeping | A motor carrier must obtain and maintain on file, for at least one year, a legible copy of any police or insurance company accident report for any accident involving a motor vehicle which they own or control. |
Obtaining an accident report
| Procedure | A copy of an accident report may be obtained by sending an “Individual Request for Crash Report” form to the Department of Transportation. | Fee | $5.00. An additional $2.00 to certify the report. |
