Alaska has adopted 390.15 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs), revised as of March 15, 2023. Section 390.15 includes accident recordkeeping requirements.
Section 390.15 applies to a self-propelled or towed vehicle that has a gross vehicle weight rating, gross combination weight rating, gross vehicle weight, or gross combination weight of 14,000 pounds or more, or is used to transport hazardous materials.

Notification | An electronic or written report, using the “Crash Report” form (12-209), must be filed with the Department of Administration (and local police department if accident occurs in a municipality) when there is:
Also, for all crashes over $501, a “Certificate of Insurance” form must be completed and mailed to DMV within 15 days to avoid suspension of the driver's license due to the mandatory insurance law. Reporting Timeframe | Report must be filed within 10 days of the accident. Report not required if investigated by law enforcement or if driver physically incapable of filing a report. |
