What's Wrong with this Picture?: Dismounting a Trailer Answers
1. The individual dismounting from the trailer should not jump down with his back to the vehicle. He is not using three points of contact. A safer means of getting out of the trailer would be to face into the trailer, stepping down using a ladder or step stool. Using the bumper would be acceptable since it has a step tread.
2. Depending on the nature of the job activities, the employee may need safety shoes.
3. The trailer has three items that could cause an employee to trip: o A tote is lying in the center of the trailer next to the drum.
o The strap that is restraining the drum has not been properly wrapped up and put out of the way.
o The load bar is positioned along the floor, adding yet another hazard for an inattentive employee. It appears that the load bar is not currently being used since the items in the trailer are not up against it.
