Quick Reference: Determining Your Hazardous Waste Generator Category Based on Monthly Waste Quantities

Hazardous waste generators are required to count the total amount of hazardous waste generated in a calendar month and use this information to determine their hazardous waste generator category. Use this quick reference table to determine whether your organization is a Very Small Quantity Generator (VSQG), Small Quantity Generator (SQG), or Large Quantity Generator (LQG).

If you generate the following types/amounts of waste in a calendar month…
Acute hazardous waste Non-acute hazardous wasteResidues from a cleanup of acute hazardous waste…then your generator catgory is:
≤2.2 lbs (1 kg) ≤220 lbs (100 kg)≤220 lbs (100 kg) Very Small Quantity Generator (VSQG)
≤2.2 lbs (1 kg) >220 lbs (100 kg) and <2,200 lbs (1,000 kg) ≤220 lbs (100 kg) Small Quantity Generator (SQG)
>2.2 lbs (1 kg) Any amount Any amount Large Quantity Generator (LQG)
Any amount ≥2,200 lbs (1,000 kg) Any amount Large Quantity Generator (LQG)
Any amount Any amount >220 lbs (100 kg) Large Quantity Generator (LQG)
