Hazard Communication: Hazcom Label

Use this exercise to improve inspection skills and teach employees to recognize and prevent workplace hazards.

Hazard Communication: Hazcom Label Answers

  1. Label is not legible. The hazard information on the label cannot be read and the label should be replaced.

    • 1910.1200(f)(9) Hazard communication labels must be legible.
    • OSHA Informational Publications: Hazard Communication Guidelines OSHA #3111
  2. Label is improperly completed. The information on the outer edges of the label was entered by rotating the label in the same direction. This caused the writing for the date and chemical name to be upside down, making it difficult to read. Also, the emergency telephone number does not include an area code. Entering data haphazardly shows a lack of concern for making important hazard information readily available to the user. It also indicates that the preparer needs additional training.
