Drug and alcohol testing quiz

With the calendar year coming to an end, safety pros should be looking at their random testing program and making sure the minimum testing numbers are met (50 percent of the drivers drug tested, 10 percent alcohol tested). This is also a good time to brush up on some of the common problems and questions related to the drug and alcohol testing regulations. Test your knowledge by answering the following questions.

True or false?

  1. You do not need to make the random percentages again this year due to the COVID exemption.
  2. You are allowed to let a new driver drive once the driver is done with the drug test.
  3. A driver receiving a citation for operating a commercial vehicle that requires a CDL while under the influence of drugs or alcohol qualifies as actual knowledge.
  4. An incident involving actual knowledge requires a drug test.
  5. A carrier can send a driver for a reasonable suspicion drug test if a reliable witness reports the driver is under the influence.
