DOT-recordable accidents
This quiz will test your ability to determine if an accident meets the FMCSA’s definition of an accident, and therefore must be recorded on your accident register. The regulations involved are §390.5 (definition of an accident) and §390.15 (the accident register regulation) and the accompanying interpretations.
Recordable, or not?
- Our vehicle was damaged by a fire while operating on the roadway and had to be towed to a repair facility.
- Our vehicle lost a fender and headlight in a one-vehicle accident (damage was well over $3,000). The driver drove it in for repairs.
- The other vehicle had to be towed due to damage and the other driver was cited for failure to yield.
- Our vehicle had to be pulled out of the ditch by a tow truck. Once out, it continued on its trip under its own power.
- A passenger in the other vehicle said he was going to go to a clinic and get checked out later in the day. Neither vehicle involved had to be towed.
