Do I need a trip permit in this scenario?: Answers

  1. No. A trip permit must be purchased before the travel takes place.
  2. Yes. Any qualified commercial motor vehicle that is traveling interstate and isn’t registered under the IRP must obtain a trip permit.
  3. No. Restricted plates are only valid for travel in the state of issue and a trip permit may be required when traveling in other jurisdictions.
