ADA: Accommodation request flowchart
The federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits discrimination based on disability and requires employers to provide reasonable accommodations for an employee or applicant's known disability.
Applicants and employees may request accommodations in many ways and don’t have to use any particular words like “ADA” or “accommodation.” Asking for a workplace change because of a medical condition is an accommodation request. Employers, then, must take steps to help ensure they respond appropriately. The following flowchart helps illustrate those steps.
