On January 21, 2025, Executive Order 11246 was revoked under a new executive order titled “Ending Illegal Discrimination and Restoring Merit-Based Opportunity.”
Executive Order 11246 was issued in 1965 and had required covered contractors and subcontractors to refrain from discrimination and to engage in affirmative steps to ensure that applicants and employees receive equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, religion, sex, and/or national origin.
The Order required all covered contractors and subcontractors to include a specific equal opportunity clause in each of their nonexempt contracts and subcontracts.
Relation to state, local and other federal laws
Individual complaints alleging employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex or national origin should be directed to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission or applicable state agencies.
