Oklahoma has adopted Part 391 of the Federal Regulations with some modifications.
Part 391 applies to intrastate drivers of vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating or gross combination weight rating, or a gross vehicle weight or gross combination weight in excess of 26,000 pounds, or transporting hazardous materials requiring the vehicle to be placarded.
A driver in intrastate commerce must be at least 18 years old, 21 years old for the transportation of hazardous materials in a quantity requiring placarding or marking.
A driver qualification file (Sec. 391.51) is required.
There are three classes of Commercial Driver’s Licenses. They are described below.
Class | Description |
Class A | Any combination of vehicles with a gross combination weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more, provided the gross vehicle weight rating of the vehicle or vehicles towed exceeds 10,000 pounds. |
Class B | Any single vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more and any one of those vehicles towing another vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating that does not exceed 10,000 pounds. |
Class C | Any single vehicle or combination of vehicles other than Class A or B, which is: 1) designed to transport 16 or more passengers including the driver; or 2) used in the transportation of hazardous materials that require the vehicle to be placarded under 49 CFR, Part 172, Subpart F. |
Class D | A single vehicle or combination of vehicles less than 26,001 pounds gross combined weight rating, recreational vehicles, emergency vehicles, farm vehicles of 26,001 pounds or more under certain criteria and vehicles operated by drivers employed by a unit of local government for the purpose of removing snow or ice from the roadway. |
