The federal minimum wage provisions are contained in the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Many states also have minimum wage laws. In cases where an employee is subject to both the state and federal minimum wage laws, the employee is entitled to the higher of the two minimum wages.
Effective January 1, 2024, the CT minimum wage will increase from $15.00 per hour to $15.69 per hour. The tip credit will increase from $8.62 to $9.31 per hour.
Each January 1 thereafter, the CT minimum wage will be adjusted according to the U.S. Department of Labor’s calculation of the employment cost index for the twelve-month period ending on June 30 of the preceding year.
On May 28, 2019, the governor signed a bill into law that will raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour by June 1, 2023.
Connecticut's minimum wage effective July 1, 2022 was $14.00 per hour.
The rates for learners, beginners, and persons under the age of 18 years may not be less that 85 percent of the minimum wage for the first 200 hours of employment and equal to the minimum wage thereafter, except certain specified institutional training programs.
