Employers are not required by federal law to give former employees their final paycheck immediately. Some states, however, may require immediate payment or payment within a specific time period.
In Connecticut, for voluntary termination payment is due not later than the next regular pay day. For involuntary termination payment is due not later than the business day after the date of such discharge. When work of any employee is suspended as a result of a labor dispute, or when an employee for any reason is laid off, payment is due not later than the next regular pay day (Conn. Gen Stat.§31-71c).
