The federal minimum wage provisions are contained in the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Many states also have minimum wage laws. In cases where an employee is subject to both the state and federal minimum wage laws, the employee is entitled to the higher of the two minimum wages.
December 21, 2022, the minimum wage for New York employees is $14.20 per hour; $15.00 for employees in NYC, Long Island, or Weschester County.
January 1, 2024, the minimum wage for New York employees is $15.00 per hour; $16 for employees in NYC, Long Island, or Weschester County.
January 1, 2025, the minimum wage for New York employees is $15.00 per hour; $16.50 for employees in NYC, Long Island, or Westchester County.
January 1, 2026, the minimum wage for New York employees is $16.00 per hour; $17.00 for employees in NYC, Long Island, or Westchester County.
January 1, 2027, the minimum wage for New York employees is indexed to inflation.
