This federal holiday is observed on the third Monday in January. All government offices (and many businesses) are closed that day in honor of Dr. King and his contributions to the civil rights movement. A growing number of employers give employees this day off while encouraging them to use the time volunteering. No mail is delivered, so no bills or paychecks will arrive.
