Connecticut has adopted Sec. 390.15 of the Federal Regulations, which includes accident recordkeeping requirements.
Applicability
Section 390.15 applies to intrastate commercial motor vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating or gross combination weight rating or gross vehicle weight or gross combination weight of 18,001 pounds or more, and to any size commercial motor vehicle transporting hazardous materials requiring placards.
Notification
The investigating officer at a motor vehicle accident where any person is killed or injured or where property damage to any one person’s property, including the operator, is more than $1,000 must make a written report to the Commissioner of Transportation within five days after completion of the investigation. A report is no longer required of the operator.

Accidents which are not available online within 30 days from the date of the accident, serious injury, fatalities, and other investigative reports may be requested directly from the Reports and Records Unit via the online customer portal: https://desppct.govqa.us/WEBAPP/_rs/(S(jp3ag4s4pl5zxklw1pohxzey))/supporthome.aspx.
Fees
Investigation Reports — $16.00 per copy. $17.00 for a certified copy.
