As of January 6, 2023, motor carriers will no longer need to contact a prospective CDL driver’s current or previous employers to get their FMCSA-mandated drug and alcohol testing history. Instead, motor carriers must rely on information from the Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse. See 382.413. Former employers must still be contacted for employment verification, crash information, and any non-FMCSA, DOT-mandated testing.
